I am a married mother of two children both of whom recently graduated through Milan Area Schools and are now working on their adult lives. I have a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a Master of Arts in Social Sciences from Eastern Michigan University. I have been employed with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services in the area of child welfare since 2011. In addition to currently filling an appointed role on the Milan School Board I am a member of the Greater Milan Area Community Foundation board and am a volunteer at The Ark in Ann Arbor.
MY VISION
To empower students to become lifelong learners and responsible citizens who contribute positively to society. My aim is to support Milan Area Schools' ability to provide a well-rounded education that prepares students for the challenges of the modern world.
Ensure we offer a wide range of academic programs to meet the needs of our diverse learning population. From Advanced Placement courses to expanding our hands on vocational training options, I am committed to providing students with the training and tools they need to succeed in their chosen path.
Supporting ways to increase parent involvement is essential for student success. Involvement not only means volunteering at their child's school but includes communicating with their teacher, checking/helping with homework, supplementing with at home reading and preparing the child for the school day. This plays a critical role in academic success.
Supports a "whole child" approach to education where children are engaged, emotionally and physically safe, and are supported by caring adults. This approach works to give children a well-rounded education and important life-skills that they can use to reach their full potential.
Creating and maintaining a positive school environment for employees and students that builds a partnership and fosters growth. This includes supporting initiatives to retain teachers and staff that provide the long-term consistency within a school system as well as the recruitment of our own area students back to our district.
Being fiscally responsibly by supporting budgets that sustain all required state and federal programming as well as items that support the district's vision and strategic plan. Conservative, well documented and researched spending is important to maintain consistency across programs in our district independent of state funding changes.
